How to use a cock ring for beginners

Ok, so you’ve heard or a cock ring (or penis ring, cock cuff, C ring, shaft ring etc) but don’t actually know what it is and what it does? Don’t panic, our SXY in house Sexperts have written this useful blog explaining everything you need to know about cock rings and how to use them.

What is a cock ring?

Cock rings can come in a rigid or flexible form, however either way is designed to restrict blood flow to the penis. Although most people just seen them as a sexy toy to heighten pleasure during sex this is actually not the case. They are also used very effectively to help people who suffer from erectile dysfunction by delaying ejaculation and prolonging erections. Simply put they are a great bedroom accessory with three main erection benefits:

  • Sustain an erection for a longer amount of time
  • Make an erect penis larger and harder
  • Delay ejaculation and help create a more intense orgasm

Cock rings are worn around the base of your penis and can also be worn around your testicles too, it’s a personal preference. They can also include testicle cradles and vibrators for varied comfort and pleasure. There are a range of different materials but ultimately all go around the penis at the base of a man’s shaft. Cock rings also come in a variety of forms, which can include vibrating modes that enhance a woman’s pleasure by a mini bullet being in constant contact with the clitoris; providing greater pleasure for both partners as the great couples sex toy option.

Why should you use a cock ring

Our in house sexperts here at SXY believe that when it comes to sex everything’s worth trying at least once right? If something has the potential to increase pleasure, satisfaction and endurance between with you and your partner, then using sex toys in the bedroom is a no brainer!

We all have that box under the bed where all our sex toys, lube and condoms live right? Or your side drawer or in some cases sex toy case or holder... Well out of all the inhabitants of your sex toy collection the cock ring is one of the toys you can’t afford to leave out. Not only does it increase your penis sensitivity, it also helps to prolong ejaculation and works to maintain a harder erection for longer. All these factors can improve your bedroom activities and make sex more pleasurable for both partners, more exciting and of course it has the medical benefits of helping men with low self-esteem or confidence issues to perform to their sexual strengths.

Also, don’t think that cock rings are only to be used when having sex with a partner, it’s one of those sex toys that can also be used in masturbation; providing similar effects to penetration meaning increased sensation and pleasure.

How to use a cock ring

Cock rings come in different shapes, sizes and forms, with some actually being easier to put on before the penis gets hard. To do this just stretch the ends using your fingers and position it at the base of your penis.

Remember when wearing a cock ring around your testicles it is advised to put the balls through first, one at a time. Tuck the head of the penis down towards the ring, pushing it through, then pull the rest of the shaft through whilst ensuring the ring is sitting nicely at the base of your penis and scrotum.

Our SXY Sexperts highly recommend to use water based lubricants before putting on the ring. Applying generously to the ring before use will allow it to be more comfortable, especially when cock rings are used without vibrators as these are normally more flexible.

How to measure for a cock ring?

If you’re buying a cock ring made to be worn at the base of your penis all you need is a piece of string or a measuring tape. Use these and wrap around the base of an erect penis and it will give you the circumference.

However, if you’re cock ring is designed to be worn around both the testicals and penis, wrap around behind the balls as close to the body as possible while the penis is erect; this will give you the circumference.

Please remember that ring sizes are measured using the diameter. To work out the diameter of a ring you need to divide the measurement by 3.14. Therefore as an example if the penis measures 6”, you divide by 3.14, which equals 1.91”. Our SXY Sexperts advise that a ring smaller than 1.91” but that also within -.5” or -.25” will provide a comfortable fit for your cock ring.

What does it feel like to wear a cock ring?

A lot of men have this very same question so you’re not alone. What does it really feel like to actually wear a cock ring? Most men are worried it will not let them orgasm or cause pain and discomfort. When used correctly this is not the case.

Cock rings should never be painful but will feel firm. You may feel uncomfortable the first time you use them so check the size to ensure they’re not too small; if they are the right size and it just feels weird or different, persevere and you will be rewarded when the action starts. The sensations felt can range from slight pressure to mild discomfort depending how tight the ring is placed. Remember it’s meant to provide pressure and keep the blood flow to your penis which therefore makes the nerves and area more sensitive. Consequently, when the ring comes off or ejaculation finally occurs, there is a much stronger orgasm or feeling of relief.

What are the different and most popular types of cock ring

As mentioned previously, there are different models of cock rings available to help with your adult activities. Key things to remember when using a cock ring

  • Cock rings should not be used for sex or otherwise for longer than 30 minutes at a time! If you’re worried about losing track during the heat of passion then set a timer and you don’t have think about clock watching.
  • Remember that cock rings are mostly harder to take off than put on; so don’t panic!
  • Remove the ring immediately if your penis turns cold or any shade of blue, purple or white.
  • If your penis stays enlarged for longer than 30 minutes after removing the cock ring then you should seek medical help immediately. Although very rare, this could be a sign of priapism (a maintained erection where new blood can’t enter the penis).
  • If you have a history of taking either blood thinning medication or cardiovascular issues then please speak to your doctor before using a cock ring of any kind.
  • Only use cock rings as a cock ring. Do not replace for items you may find round the house such as rubber bands, key chains/fobs, shower curtain rings, hair bands or anything else you think could be substituted. Unless they were specifically designed by experts for sexual use they more than likely aren’t safe and shouldn’t be used.
